Obedience in Finances

Is tithing a part of the law that does not apply to us today? NO! Tithing was established before the law was given to Moses (Genesis 14:20, 28:20-22) and it was reaffirmed by Christ in the New Testament (Matthew 23:23). Tithe literally means tenth (Genesis 28:20; Leviticus 27:32; Isaiah 6:13).

The Lord’s Supper

The second church ordinance is the Lord’s Supper. It was started by Jesus in Jerusalem, the same night He was betrayed by Judas. (Matt 26:20-30) Jesus told his disciples to take the Lord’s Supper in remembrance of Him. The next day Jesus died on the Cross to pay for our sins. He died so that you and I might have our sins forgiven.

The Visible Gospel Church

The Visible Gospel Church

We believe that a visible church of Christ is a congregation of baptized believers, associated by the covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel, observing the ordinances of Christ; governed by his laws, and exercising the gifts, rights and privileges invested in them by his word. The church today is made up of the following offices:

Bishops - watchmen; overseer; normally rules churches in a particular group or region

Pastors - shepherd; teacher; God’s gift to the church; trains members to be mature in faith and equip them with knowledge

Prophets - reception/declaration of a word from the Lord through direct prompting of the Holy Spirit

Evangelists; Teachers; Elders - spiritual leaders

Deacons - servant who assist the pastor

Preachers - interprets the meaning of God’s word/acts

(more info on these offices see I Tim 3: II Tim 4: Titus 1:5-6, Eph 4:11-13)

Baptism

Baptism

The Church has “Doctrines” that are its beliefs and teachings. The church also has “Ordinances” which it observes or does because Christ commanded them. A New Testament Church has two ordinances. They are Water Baptism and the Lord’s Supper.

1. What is water baptism a pictorial illustration of? (Romans 6:4-5)

2. Why was Jesus baptized? (Matthew 3:13-15)

3. What did Jesus command his disciples to go do? (Matthew 28:19)

4. What did Philip say that the eunuch had to do before he would baptize him? (Acts 8:36-38)

Romans 6:1-11

1. What shall we say then?  Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?

2. God forbid.  How shall we that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?

3. Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

4. Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death; that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in the newness of life.

5. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection.

6. Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

7. For he that is dead is freed from sin.

8. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

9. Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over Him. (The power and penalty of sin died with Christ on the Cross!)

10. Likewise reckon ye also For in that he died, he died unto sin once; but in that he liveth, he liveth unto GOD.

11. Yourselves to be died indeed unto sin, but alive unto GOD through Jesus Christ our Lord.
